Simon JennerI started my career in 1979, following in my father’s footsteps, by working in construction and training as a Civil Engineer. A year later the industry took a nose dive into recession and I was made redundant.

Under advisement from my parents, as I had no clue what to do next, I entered the exciting and wonderful world of accounting. Yes, there’s a little sarcasm going on there.

I ended up qualifying as an Accountant and worked in the profession for twenty four years, the last five in my own accounting firm which I set up with my wife. During these years I must have started at least fifteen novels and finished – you guessed it – zero.

Four years ago (I’m now 49 – when did that happen?), my son Ben (now 10) asked me to take three of his drawings, a dragon, a giant bee and a T-Rex, and write a story for him.

As many of you will know, it’s hard to refuse your kids, especially when they know exactly how to twist you round their fingers, like mine does. So, I messed around with his story for minutes at a time, for a few months until I had a story that was in rhyme, a bit too scary and not very publishable. Ben loved it. Despite my wife’s idea to tidy it up and get it published, I let it sit around for months and like all my previous works, it sat in a cupboard.

It did however, once more, release my creative juices and I began to write every day, and it felt great. Over the last two years I have finished, “The Mystical Wood” – the revised and edited children’s illustrated book written for Ben those four years ago – as well as “Ethan Justice: Origins” – a dark and humorous tale of lust, deceit and revenge where murder, intrigue and mayhem abound.

I have recently released Lust Knows Where You Work, a compilation of dark short stories with a twist, and I am currently in the process of writing Ethan Justice 2. I also have other projects on the go as you can see in the sidebar on the right.

What can you expect?

  • Lots of action and adventure.
  • Lots of black humor.
  • The bad guys always get what’s coming to them.
  • Nothing too over descriptive (I admire works of literary fiction but they aren’t what I love to read or write).

I hope that you will find my writing entertaining and enjoyable and continue this journey with me. Please contact me and let me know what you think of any of my works.
